Idlewild South
Gregg Allman
- Lead Vocals, Organ, Piano
Additional Personnel - Thom Doucette - Harmonica & Percussion All songs written by Gregg Allman or Dickey Betts (see below) except "Hoochie Coochie Man" written by Willie Dixon.
With Idlewild South The Allman Brothers Band put out one true masterpiece. The band on this album are as fine tuned as you could ask for. The guitar weave between Dickey Betts and Duane Allman is spectacular with some great slide work by Duane. "Midnight Rider" is the best song on the album, a blues outlaw rock song with a wonderful acoustic guitar track and mellow lead. "Revival" is another winner, with Dickey Betts and Gregg Allman's vocals filling this song well. The early studio version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" found here, is just so clean and would only get better when they would play it live. "Please Call Home" is another great blues number and they cover Willie Dixon's "Hoochie Coochie Man" in fine style. If you dig the blues, get you hands on this album! - Keno 2002 To listen to some soundclips from Idlewild South or to purchase it click on: Idlewild South or Idlewild South [3 CD/Blu-ray Combo] Return to Rock Album's Reviews
