My favorite album by Jeff Beck. Rod Stewart's vocals really steal the record, but leaves quite a lot of room for Beck. The rhythm section of Ronnie Wood and Mickie Waller is tight and grooving. Beck plays some great solos. The blues songs really define his guitar playing: "Rock My Plimsoul," which includes some great bass playing by Ronnie, "Let Me Love You", where Rod Stewart really sings his ass off, "You Shook Me" "Blues Deluxe," which gives Nicky Hopkins a chance to display his piano playing, and especially "Ain't Superstitious" which includes some hard rocking wah work with a little bit of delay for effect. "Shapes of Things" is a great way to kick off the album. Listen to Mickie's fabulous drumming after the effective guitar solo, and especially listen to Rod Stewart's vocals. Rod also sings great on "Ol' Man River" which includes John Paul Jones playing organ and tympany, but the song doesn't really go anywhere. "Greensleeves" is a lovely classical number with just Beck playing acoustic. One of the best song here is "Morning Dew" a lovely tune with equally great vocals by Rod and piano by Nicky Hopkins. Jeff doesn't take a solo, but plays some great inbetween licks. Even if you don't like Jeff Beck, you'll still like this album.
