Keno's Classic Rock n Roll Web Site
Over at our Rock poll's voting booth, only so many characters can be used for each poll choice thanks to space limits. With that in mind, this page has been set up to list all of what is needed to be shown in any poll choice where there's not enough room in the voting booth to list everything.
For the Stones poll question being run this week (May 15, 2023), the issue isn't in the choices and their descriptions not fitting in the poll's admin, but instead, after being coded with their long music links, there isn't any room for them to fit in the poll's voting field. So, the same lack of space problem, but just for a different reason, so their music links are listed here instead. The question asked is:
"Out of Time": The long version vs the short version vs the strings version. Which version of the song is better?
"Out
of Time" - Long
version - 5:36 - long (aka Version 1, aka, the UK release of the song)
"Out of Time" -
Short
version - 3:40 - long (aka Version 2, aka, the U. S. release of the song)
"Out of Time" -
Strings
version - 3:17 - long. The actual true "short"
take of the song, but known as the "String version", even if it's even shorter
than the version that is know to some as the "short version" (aka
Version 3, aka the Metamorphosis
LP release of the song).

- Past polls -
Of the altered lyrics found in rock songs, that were forced on the artist due to censorship, what song was ruined the most by this action?
(Poll voted on the week of Oct 2, 2022, only the poll's choices descriptions
that don't fit in the poll's admin are listed here)
Lola - The Kinks - "Where they drink champagne and it tastes
just like Coca-Cola", was changed to "...it tastes just like cherry cola" in the
UK because of the censors at the BBC, which have a policy against airing
material with product placement.
Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard
- Paul Simon - "And when the radical priest come to get me released, we
is all on the cover of Newsweek". The censors at the BBC had these lyrics
removed from the song because of their policy against airing material with
product placement.
Kodachrome - Paul Simon - "When I think
back on all the crap I learned in high school" - "crap" was beeped out on
southern U.S. radio stations while the entire song was banned in the UK because
of product placement censorship.
The Cover of Rolling Stone - Dr.
Hook & the Medicine Show - "But the thrill we've never known. is the
thrill that'll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of the Rollin'
Stone" - Changed without permission by BBC DJs to "...on the cover of Radio
Times", to get around BBC product placement censorship.
You Don’t
Know How it Feels - Tom Petty - On the U.S. radio censored version,
when Tom sings "Let’s roll another joint", that was edited, with the word "roll"
beeped out and "joint" distorted to where it couldn't be understood.
Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison – The line "Making love in the green
grass, behind the stadium" was changed to "Laughin' and a-runnin', behind the
stadium" on some U.S. radio stations and on the mono version of the song.
Star Star - The Rolling Stones - (1) Actual
title was "Starfucker", but changed to "Star Star" because of U.S. and UK
censors. (2) But, the song was also banned on the BBC and on
most U.S. radio stations because the word "Statfucker" was repeated over and
over again throughout the song, and also because of the lyrics: "Your tricks
with fruit was kind a cute, I bet you keep your pussy clean" - and for - "Yeah,
you and me, we made a pretty pair, ballin' through the Silver Screen".
Jet Airliner - Steven Miller Band - "I don't want to get caught
up in any of that funky shit goin' down in the city" was heard over the radio
for years without being edited, only to have the word "shit" changed to "kicks"
on U.S. radio stations - a good 10 plus years after its release.
Kick
Out the Jams - MC5 - Band forced to replace live LP's version of the
lyrics of this song from the album of the same name, because it opened with,
"It’s time to kick out the jams, motherfuckers!".
Locomotive Breath -
Jethro Tull - The line "got him by the balls" was changed by the band's
label to "got him by the fun" on DJ copies for radio air play. Just what the
hell is "got him by the fun" suppose to mean?
Money - Pink Floyd -
Lyric "don't give me that goodly-good bullshit" changed by band's label to
"don't give me that goodly-good bull (beep)" on DJ copies for radio air play.
Money for Nothing - Dire Straits - "See that little faggot with
the earring and the make up, yeah buddy, that's his own hair. That little faggot
got his own jet airplane, that little faggot, he's a millionaire", was changed
to: "See the little queenie with the earring and the make up, yeah buddy, that's
his own hair. That little boy got his own jet airplane, that little boy, he's a
millionaire", on Canadian radio stations because of the word "faggot".
They Don't Care About Us - Michael Jackson - "Jew me, sue me,
everybody, do me, kick me, kike me, don't you black or white me" changed to "Do
me, sue me, everybody, do me, kick me, [beep] me, don’t you black or white me".
Tutti Frutti - Little Richard - Lyrics were at first written
and sang by Richard as "Tutti Frutti, good booty", but changed by his label to
"Tutti frutti, oh rootie" so it would be less sexual and get more air play on
the radio.
