The City of Longmont is located in Boulder and Weld counties, northeast of Boulder. Longmont's population was 98,711 at the time of the 2020 U.S. Census, making it the 14th most populous city in Colorado. The name "Longmont" comes from Longs Peak, a 14,259-foot (4346 m) fourteener that is located nearby.

The Town of Lyons is just to the west of Longmount, in Boulder County. The town population was 2,033 according to the 2010 United States Census. Lyons is located at the confluence of North St. Vrain Creek and South St. Vrain Creek.
