Nederland, Colorado

The Town of Nederland is located near Barker Meadow Reservoir in the mountains of southwest Boulder County, Colorado. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,445. The town was renamed by Dutch miners in 1874 for their native land, the Nederlands, in Western Europe. But "Nederland" translated to American English means "low land", ironic, considering that the town's elevation is at 8,228 feet (2,508 m) while most locations in the Netherlands are near or even below sea level.
