: : I've listened to this song quite a few times over the past couple of weeks since I finally bought GHS on CD. Gotta say I like it more and more..
: : It sneaks up on you. Starts out kind of slow, then picks up..by 1:30 or so into the song, you've got three guitars just absolutely wailing. It's Mick Taylor and Kieth at their absolute rauchiest. Over the years, people have focussed on the lyrics of this song, (which is sort of pointless, because they're absolutely unintelligible) rather than the guitarwork, which is some of the best of the period (i.e. ever!).
: : I think if "Starfucker" had gotten the full Charlie Watts treatment in the way, say "Crazy Mama" or "Hand of Fate" did, it'd be regarded as a full-on classic.
: I always loved this song and agree the guitars are real hot, as is the whole song including those great lyrics. I think its a "full on classic", period. It just is never played on the radio cause of the lyrics but its still a classic, IMO.
When I started to become a serious fan a few years ago and got GHS I really didn't like it. But I find that the more I listen to it the more I like it. Silver Train is probably one of my top 10 favs of the Stones in the 70s, and Mick T is great throughout. The only thing that stops me from rating it among the best is that there is a sort of sameness with some of the slower songs, though I like most of them.
