: : :Think of Black and Blue as Exile with better sound quality and 10 fewer tracks..
: : Are you fucking high? I like Black And Blue, but it is in no way even close to Exile. Crazy Mama just grates on me like nothing they've ever done. But I really like Melody, Hey Negrita, Hand of Fate, Hot Stuff (if disco woulda been like Hot Stuff, I'd wore a white suit!) and Memory Motel (live it doesn't do much for me anymore - it was cool in 94, but I'd rather hear something else after hearing that once).
: : Exile has so much more of what I love the Stones for. Rocks Off, All Down The Line, Tumbling Dice (Tumbling Dice is on Exile. Tumbling DICE, man!)
: : I mean, there you can go on and on.
: : Black and Blue is good, but Exile is a defining moment in music history.
: I'm with you on the Exile comment, but you must be fucking high if Crazy Mama grates on you like nothing else they've done(and Hot Stuff doesn't?).
Crazy Mama is flawed only by trite lead guitar work..a near-universal flaw in the Stones post IORR work. Maybe the reason some fans don't get into CM and HOF, claiming they "drag", is that they are both slow-paced rockers. I happen to like that style, and think that a lot of the Stones best rockers (TD, the first part of CYHMK, Luxury) are of that ilk.
And while Charlie's drumming on CM has a certain spareness, the *sound* is BIG..I like the effect.
Overall, I can say that I like *every* song on B&B, even ones I initially didn't, like Hot Stuff and Hey Negrita..they've grown on me. Exile and Sticky Fingers are the only other two Stones albums where I'm never tempted to skip a song. That's pretty good company..
