: : Do you think the Rolling Stones are the Godfathers of Glam Rock and were responsible for starting it?
: :Not stones but Mick alone,he started this thing!
Mick started wearing make up & glitter & glam outfits about the time of the 1972 US tour. (Ladies and Gentleman with the glitter to the side of his eyes) Let's say June 72. The two people who are largely credited with starting "70's Glam Rock" is Mr. T Rex himself Marc Bolan, who's tour & album Electric Warrior came out in early 1971 with Bang a Gong. The other person is David Bowie who also was doing it in 1971 with Queen Bitch and early 1972 with Ziggy. You could also make a case for Alice Cooper, The New York Dolls or even go back to the early 60's with Little Richard. (That's why I said "70's glam rock") The BBC's 10 part series on the history of Rock and Roll had this to say and I quote:
Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust, but his meteoric success had spawned a whole new movement in Britain known as GLAM ROCK.......Even hardened old veterans like the Rolling Stones jumped on the band wagon.
At which time they show a clip from Silver Train where Mick has the glitter and blue jump suit on and Charlie just rolls his eyes. Great Stuff.
I'm going back to bed for a while. JIMMY
