: In a significant way, Beggars Banquet is the first Stones album - the one which was to define their sound and perfect their song writing. Jumpin Jack Flash is certainly proof of their coming of age. For the last time, the interweave of Brian and Keith's guitars created a unique tension that no subsequent guitarist could quite replicate. The impulse started on this album carried them until Disco dawned. Clearly, Dylan's John Wesley Harding album was an influence. In many ways, I think Brian Jones remained the musical leader, even at this date. His presence lends authenticity and musical craftsmanship to the whole effort. I think No Expectations was his swan song and a beautifully prescient requiem. I agree that Downtown Suzie should have been included. And what about Brian on Still a Fool! Bringing up Brian's harmonica in the mix would have added greatly to the feel of Dear Doctor - it's the most exquisite and heartfelt use of harmonica in rock-n-roll. Ah, what might have been?
Great Posts, Blimey and Red Rooster! You guys get it exactly!
