: Do any of you play the guitar? I'm interested to see what somebody who does thinks of Keith, Mick T., Brian and Woody. There strengths and weaknesses.
Brian strengths: excellent blues slide guitarist, good at rhythm, co-leads and "weaving" with Keith, great lead riffs on "Last Time" and "Cloud" .
Brian weaknesses: Not a soloist per se, except for slide. His playing tended to be rather structured to the song and not as a standout (perhaps a strength?).
Keith strengths: Best all-time Chuck Berry disciple, creative with open tunings especially rhythm work, acoustic work superb, the riff = the song par excellence!
Keith weaknesses: Seems to lack an authentic "blues" feel, not always consistent in live performance, least impressive slide player of all Stones guitarists.
Taylor strengths: Feel, tone and vibrato to kill for, a true blues virtuoso, slide guitar that cries
Taylor weaknesses: Not a very inspired rhythm player, not much interplay (tends toward strict lead-rhythm role)
Wood strengths: Good two-guitar interplay with Keith, O.K. slide, can adapt well to both lead and rhythm playing
Wood weaknesses: He's no Mick Taylor, and can be loose to the point of being sloppy
Jagger in general: Still waiting for him to learn that fourth chord!
