Syph, you make some absolutely valid points, and I DO agree that there were some strange things happening that night. I just don't believe myself that murder was one of them.
Reports *back then* from the people involved DO match up. Things have only changed recently with the spate of books that have been published in recent years. Suddenly people seem to be remembering the most minute details, 20-30 years after the fact! I find that a little far-fetched. I certainly didn't mean to oversimplify things when I said that he "f***ed up and drowned", but all of my books seem to indicate that this is roughly what happened, with the exception of a couple of recent Brian bios.

As to the music aspect, Brian was vastly relieved when he left the Stones. People who saw him shortly before his death remarked how tanned and healthy he looked, and how excited he was about his new music. But, his deep insecurities didn't just disappear in the process. Several other accounts talked about how he'd be almost shy about letting anyone even hear his stuff. One of those people was his former mentor, Alexis Korner. Mr. Korner said that he did finally hear some of Brian's music, and it really sounded great. But, Brian thought it was "shit" and erased it.

You're right on about comparing it to the JFK thing, we'll probably never know, and we'll always wonder. I just object to people continuing to make a buck off of him.
