I just voted for Jimmy Miller in this weeks poll. Why???????????? Because of Exile alone. "Exile on Main Street was a difficult album from the technical side," Miller once recalled, "because we were recording in a basement and in a very bad room for recording. I was never happy with the sound , and as a producer , I felt from the start that we should be getting better sound. And yet, through the years, people have come up to me and said, 'Wow, Exile, what a great record!' And they seem to love the basementness of it." What a great record indeed!!!!!!!!!!!Young Joey's favorite. Remember, in the wake of "Sgt. Pepper" , records--even Stones records-- were supposed to sound good. A raw sound was not a production choice, a sign of authenticity or ballsiness, as in the hypertech Eighties. It was just bad sound. Jimmy Miller took this "bad sound" and made it respectable on the hippest possible terms. Thus, the Stones thrived and forged their greatest and toughest album---making their day and my life.
