REVIEW
When you consider all the crap that was going on within the band during the making of this album, its unreal just how great a piece of work this turned out to be. When they entered the studio to start production, Brian Jones was still a member, by the time they finished it, he had died and Mick Taylor was the new Stone in the band. Some of their best work shows up here and tops many Stones fans lists for best album. Of the nine tunes, I rate six of them a ten.'"Let It Bleed" is my favorite song here with Ian "Stu" Stewart playing boogie-woogie piano at his best! Let It Bleed is Keith Richards' best Stones album ever. He plays most of the guitars on this album and plays them superbly! His first lead vocal for the Stones also shows up here on "You Got The Silver". Bill Wyman's vibes start out "Monkey Man" in the right direction and Mick Jagger's powerful vocals then take over the song with the guitars jamming in just at the right times. "Midnight Rambler" was written in part about the real life Boston Strangler, and "You Can't Always Get What You Want" closes out the album with pure greatness, I even dig the choir that opens up the song! This entire album is a gem, it you never owned a Stones CD and want to check one out other than a greatest hits package, then choose this album. - Keno 1998 *Old Ratings vs. New Ratings The oldest ratings that you see here are from back in 1998 when I first rated the album for this site. Since time does change one's point of view, I decided to listen to and rate the album again, doing so in late 2005. In October, 2018, 20 years after the first ratings were made, I rated all of the songs for a third time. Also note that I did not look at the old ratings from 1998 until after I placed my new ratings here in both 2005 and 2018.
