REVIEW This album was put together in pieces over several years, dating back to 1970 and '73 when "Tops" and "Waiting On A Friend"" were recorded during the Goat's Head Soup sessions, back when Mick Taylor was still in the band. Letting classics like "Waiting On a Friend" and "Start Me Up" (first recorded in 1975) stay under wraps so long is unreal! Mick Jagger claims that they just forgot about these songs and never got around to finish them till 1981. "'Heaven", which features Bill Wyman on synthesizer and guitar, was the only real new song brought in for this album's sessions. The only other tune that the band actually played on for these sessions was "Neighbors", which was first worked on a couple of years earlier. The rest of the sessions was left for remixing the other, older songs. But, even with the overlooked good tunes on this LP, there are some real poor songs that show up on here, songs that would have been better off just forgotten. Rock music was on the downturn during this period, and it wasn't the greatest time music wise for the Stones either, as some of these songs show. All I can say is that I'm glad the days that the Stones put out songs like some of these are over. Some Stones fans really dig this album, for me it doesn't light the world on fire but I do give it a passing grade. - Keno, 1998 2018 updated review is here. *Old Ratings vs. New Ratings The oldest ratings that you see here are from back in 1998 when I first rated the album for this site. Since time does change one's point of view, I decided to listen to and rate the album again, doing so in late 2005. In December, 2018, 20 years after the first ratings were made, I rated all of the songs for a third time. Also note that I did not look at the old ratings from 1998 until after I placed my new ratings here in both 2005 and 2018.
