The Town of Lake City (elevation 8,661 ft,/2,640 m); ) is the county seat and the only incorporated municipality in Hinsdale County, Colorado. In 1875, Lake City gained notoriety when Alferd Packer was charged with murder and cannibalism. Due to the nature of the crime, it was sensationalized and gained national attention. Today, as of the 2010 census, there were 408 people living here.
