The reason I think Brian's got a larger role on Beggar's Banquet than many given him credit for is when it was recorded (primarily before May of 1968). His second drug bust, which really did him in, was at the tail end of the sessions. And if you listen to Satanic Majesties recorded summer and early fall '67 Brian's pretty prominent despite the fact that he's cracking up. The harp on DD and PS could be Brian. Slide on Jig-Saw (perhaps a lap steel) Brian, along with mellotron or recorder. Salt of the Earth likewise on slide. It wouldn't take him long to lay down those kinds of tracks as overdubs wich is how he worked right?
And one last subjective thing: Beggar's has a Brian feel to it, whereas Let It Blood (IMHO) doesn't. Who better to give it a Brian feel than Brian?
