: I think it'd be interesting to see how many fans would buy a live album from an old tour. The Grateful Dead have had alot of success doing it, and more important they have made money giving thier fans what they want. If the Stones released complete performances from every tour, what would they lose? They could do exactly what the Dick's Picks series did. Release the first couple in the stores and then release most of the other releases via mail order or internet only.
While the DP series is great, they've got a habit
of releasing stuff that's been circulating, in
high quality, already.
Drives the hard core heads nuts, because they're
still so many vault shows that aren't out there.
And the latest one, DP17, from IMO the last truly great run of Dead shows - 6 nights at the Boston Garden September '91 - is generating similar complaints.
Why THAT one ?
Having been to all of them, I have to agree that they missed the boat.
The last night was an all timer...
But hey, we won't be happy until Dick's Picks
2034 is released.
That'll be just about all of 'em ;-)
I'm all for the Stones releasing full shows from their various tours.
Keep the artwork, etc. at a minimum to keep expenses down, and GET 'EM OUT THERE !
DP17 is $18.50 for 3 CDs, so it can be done.
