I agree, of course, with everything you say except this - you're falling into my bad habit of overstating your case. Brian's slide was really good but fairly rudimentary. I don't think he ever got to the stage of playing slide in an open tuning, which is pretty important. Off the top of my head, white slide players who could smoke Brian's butt would include Duane Allman, Lowell George (ok, technically those guys are DEAD so they can't play better than him NOW), Ry Cooder, Mick Taylor, Ron Wood, and my buddy Mitch Ivanoff.
BUT I think you're right that he was the first white guy to do it, which is fairly monumental.
